Item Conditions Global - July 27th deadline..

Greg S. -

As many of you know, July 27th is the deadline to ensure all of your listings include an item condition! This is extremely important for live listings that are set to auto relist and/or GTC listings that auto relist.  The good news is it's very easy to revise your listings to ensure they have an item condition. We have also created a new Global for Item Condition that you can use to update your listings in bulk.

Note: In the email we sent out, it was said that ALL categories are affected by the item condition option. We apologize for the miscommunication on that. Not all categories are affected (most of them are). Some categories like Pottery and Glass are excluded from this. Here is a link to eBay's condition requirement categories:

http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/itemconditionlookup.html

To use globals for item condition:

Go to globals and create a global rule and create one for item condition.

Then go to your listings and check them off.

Then click options > apply global, and choose the global rule that you created.

If you have any further questions on how to use this global, please contact our support by either submitting a ticket above, or using the live help option.

Item condition will NOT be mandatory in Main Pottery & Glass category (any subcategory exceptions will be listed below)

FYI - does not apply to Pottery, glass or china

Also GLOBALS can only be applied to SCHEDULED ones.....DOES NOT work on the already listed ones....HOW does this help us with BULK when most of my 100's of items are LISTED already and CANNOT apply GLOBALS.

The e-mail I received from INKFROG said that items will not launch or relist without applying condition.  So, even though pottery and china is excluded it is not excluded per Ink Frog.  How do we tell INKFROG to allow our pottery and china items to launch  Joyce

Greg, some clarification is needed.  I do not believe GTC listings are required to be fixed by July 27 from my understanding of the announcements.  Please confirm what you mean. I understand you to mean a "new" GTC listing that is auto relisted from inkFrog to replace a GTC that sold out and ended.  Not an existing live running GTC that is live on eBay with stock.

    You stated:

As many of you know, July 27th is the deadline to ensure all of your listings include an item condition! This is extremely important for live listings that are set to auto relist and/or GTC listings that auto relist.

The original Summer Seller update 27 April 2010 states:

To make it easier for sellers to specify item condition, we’re introducing more descriptive values in many categories. In some categories, specifying item condition will be required for new listings, revised listings and sell similar starting on July 27, 2010 and for Good Til’ Cancelled listings in the spring of 2011.

The above link references another link which states:

First deadline in July. Between now and July 27, 2010, using item condition is optional, but we recommend you begin including it in your listings as soon as possible. Item condition will be required for all new listings, revised listings and sell similar in these categories on July 27 and** for Good 'Til Cancelled renewals in 2011**. Get familiar with the new conditions and begin applying them now.

    |
    - Review the new item condition values in categories where you sell as well as the definitions of the values available in Help. Use the look-up table to view categories and matching item condition definitions.
    - Start adopting the new item condition values. As of July 27, you must specify an item condition for new listings, including revised listings and sell similar in the required categories. Item condition will be required for Good 'Til Cancelled listings in 2011.

For inkFrog users, the two ebay reference links has more information on the item condition if you need a refresher in what it is all about.

Hi all, the Globals will work for live listings! So please use this to update your live listings as well.

If there are specific categories where a condition is not required,  our system will not block it from listing. The block we referred to in the email was a block by eBay (we have not put any blocks on our end for this).

oMo -- it is my understanding that GTC listings may fail on relist. GTC listings get auto relisted by eBay every 30 days, thus to me this means they will fail as well. I can try to find more clarification on this, however, I would  make sure all of my live listings (including GTC listings) get updated with the conditions to be on the safe side.

Why would a GTC fail to list on ebay if the item condition is not required until 2011?

July 27th is the item condition deadline (ie. in 4 days).. unless you are referring to a different category ?

It's my understand from reading on ebay that only new, revised or sell similar items are required to have the new item conditions in the required categories.  GTC listings relist automatically and are, as the title infers, Good Til Cancelled, and therefore do not require the new item specifics until 2011?

As of July 27, you must specify an item condition for new listings, including revised listings and sell similar in the required categories. Item condition will be required for Good 'Til Cancelled listings in 2011.

I've spoken with a rep from ebay today and was assured that any GTC listings will renew without issue?  Either I'm confused, they're confused or we're ALL confused on the GTC listings and whether they're require their item condition to be updated on the 27th if the category requires it?

I have confirmed that GTC listings will not  fail with eBay! So this is good news, but they will fail if you try and revise them. Meaning, if you revise your GTC listing, it will require you to input a condition at that time.

Thanks Greg, that was my understanding as well, but hell I'm wrong alot or confused alot lately with all the changes here, there and everywhere.

I have been submitting tickets for 2 MONTHS trying to get inkfrog to update the condition field.  Now I get an email today informing me that the changes are 5 days away and they are on top of it?

I have been waiting to do my listings for over a month now, because I didn't want to have to update every single listing.

It was one of the most frustrating things I have ever dealt with, and I can't understand why it took so long and the techs were so clueless.

I make doll clothing and was told that this category would be exempt.  Does anyone know if this is true?  Thank you.

Not sure what category you list in but you should check the table to be sure?

I don't understand why would i have to update my listings if my item condition was already mentioned. What kind of listings would fail? is it the ones with "----" item condition or "New" ones as well?

  • Avatar
    Greg S.

Yes, the new item condition is the --, this is different than the old item conditions which were in the item specifics.
