Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories Sellers -- New Mandate, Update your listings now.

Greg S. -

Hi all, anyone who has listings in the Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories category will need to make sure they update their listings for the new Item Specific requirements (this is a mandatory update). These listings will fail if they are not updated by May 9th. Most of the Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories categories are affected, so make sure you check yours for the new requirement. Here is a quick link for you to test which Item Specifics are required for each category: http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/increaseyoursales/csalookup.html

Fortunately, inkFrog has made it very easy to update your listings using our Globals feature. Below is a quick tutorial:

First, create a Global rule with the Category and Items specifics -

Make sure you notice all the Item Specifics which are designated with a star * - These are now required!

Finally, apply this to the listings you need to update (you can do this in bulk) -

Make sure you choose the Global that you created when you apply it. This will update all the listings you checkmarked.

The problem is ... when you apply the "global" category then all the item specifics you did have are gone!! When you have 3200 listings going through each one individually to add back the item specifics that were already there, is not making it easy for eBay sellers. :-(

Yes, it will update the specifics to what you have in your Global -- so make sure you have your Global completely filled out and only update those listings that will use those particular item specifics

The problem is, we'd have to have an awfully lot of globals, one for tops, one for skirts, one for suits, one for each kind of clothing you can imagine. In short, you still have to pretty much manually tailor each and every one. Globals can only work just so far.

Here is another reason they are limited.  I have for quite some time been filling in all the Item Specifics I possibly could. Two of them that are now problematic are color and size. The new boxes for  those are red asterisked and blank, even though the color and size information is there, but down below. What that means is we have to type those in again, and then delete the bottom ones. Wondering why the existing color and size can't go in to the new places for them when the category has been changed.

Question - when we pull up one of our profiles to do a new listing, ie, click on New Listing, and there is a category chosen, why are the Item Specifics that are now required red asterisk'ed?

Those aren't required for a profile -- so ignore that if you can.

I'm confused. Sure, they aren't required for a profile, but we make our listings directly from profiles. Shouldn't they then be on the profiles to start with as well?

Going to ask this one again in a briefer (hopefully clearer) form:

Why are the existing color and size not going in to the new places for them when the category has been changed. Other information is ok, but not color and size. We are having to type in the color and size to the 'new' boxes for them, and then delete the color and size at the bottom of the list. Can this be fixed? This is such a huge time expense for us right now that every extra step is important. Thanks!

Hey Winter, can you send me an example? Maybe send some screenshots ? I'm not sure what you mean by 'at the bottom of the list' ?

Sure - here is an example. What I meant was that Color and Size, too required specifics do not get automatically filled in as do the other specifics we've already chosen (on an existing listing we've pulled up). Instead they are down at the bottom of the list of Item Specifics. It's unclear as to whether it would be acceptable to leave them that way, so I've been typing them in and then deleting the bottom two. Hope that makes sense.

Greg, I have spent some time setting up some Category globals, and found what I thought would be the case is indeed the case. They just don't work that well in making changes for the new categories. There are just too many variables. I wish, but they really don't, and I appreciate you guys trying. The best way is still just to go in one by one, which makes this point you asked about really crucial in helping to save time.

Maybe to be a bit more specific about why the globals are not practical, the Item Specifics we already have in place get erased if we use a global. Things like material content, sleeve length or type, whether it's lined, etc.  And, there really isn't anything you guys could do to fix that aspect.

Here's another screen shot. See how the words Cardigan and Misses stay, but size and color don't?

The screen shots are what Item Specs look lik once we've chosen one of the new categories, btw

Yes, you need to 'refill' those out completely -- meaning, the new Global has to have the full 'set' of info -- I know this doesn't work well for 'unique' items.

I daresay that applies to most of us who sell clothing, unfortunately.

So I'm not clear on your reply - are you saying there is no way that Color and Size can be carried over too when the other items are, and that we manually have to type them in?

I'm just today starting to do some new listings since all week I've worked on nothing but re-categorizing my Unsolds. When I pull up my Profiles, which my new Listings are made from, why are the required boxes not highlighted with a red asterisk?  I just find it helpful in keeping us from making omissions.  TIA

Hi Winter, do you mean when you 'load' a profile while on the lister? or when you are in an 'edit' mode of a profile ?

Either way. When you click on one of your profiles or when you click on New Listing which pulls up your default profile. Both should have the red asterisks.
