SmartShipping released - Print labels in bulk & save up to 20% on your shipping

Greg S. -

Hi everyone,

I'm extremely excited to announce the release of our new, Smart Shipping application. This application allows you to print your shipping labels (in bulk) directly from inside inkFrog. It also allows you to save up to 20% off of your Priority, Express, and flat rate shipments.

The inkFrog Smart Shipping application is a huge value add for US customers and will actually SAVE you time and money. You no longer have to use a separate software application for your shipping labels -- you can do it directly from inside inkFrog!

A few notes about this application -- For UPS or USPS Priority, Express, and Flat Rate shipments, you just need to click on the SmartShipping tab and begin using the application. If you would like to use the application with other shipping types (like First Class shipments), then you must be a stamps.com customer. If you are not a stamps.com customer, signup through our special URL and you will receive a $100 value! See it at http://www.stamps.com/inkfrog/   -- utilizing stamps.com also gives you better shipping rates!

Other great features of the application:

·         Import orders from eBay, Amazon, or PayPal

·         Print UPS labels in bulk

·         Print packing slips in bulk

·         Email tracking information to buyers

·         Streamlined international shipping

Below is a chart which outlines the benefits of our application

How do I find this application?

We've added a new tab directly inside your inkFrog account. See the screenshot below.

I use Auctane right now to ship everything. Gonna try this out and see how it goes. Thanks for the update

Sounds good.  Is there a stealth option?  Just wondering what the advantages are to shipping with IF -vs- eBay?

Does shipping with ebay provide commercial plus pricing + 6% off PMI?

@ebayfunatic - yes, you can print stealth postage with SmartShipping (including First Class International).

@shipsurance - eBay provides rates at the "Commercial Base" pricing level.  Their rates are identical to the rates provided by Stamps.com.  On the other hand, inkFrog Discount Postage has rates that are better than eBay's rates in the categories mentioned in the chart above.

Endicia connection would be awesome, but I will add stamps.com until then.. This is really fantastic.. I have 4 eBay Accts, 1 amazon and highwire. Could really simplify my business.

I have signed up for this but have some concerns.  I currently use the paid version of stamps.com software from USPS shipping, average 15-20 shipments per day.

    1) Do you have plans to offer the various USPS Priority Mail flat rate sizes?  This is the majority of my packages, and apparently I can not do them from inkFrog shipping right now.

    2) Do you have plans to offer more label options?  I currently use stamps.com with the 4"x5" (4 per sheet) label size.  This is a significant cost savings to me for labels.

I will have to see how this works out.  I'm concerned if the savings is going to be worth the extra work and logistics of shipping from multiple apps if I can't do the flat rate packages from inkFrog shipping.

This appears to be Auctane without the Auctane fees...

Are you guys just using Auctane's service? I mean I can pretty much cancel my Auctane membership and use this it appears... The 20% off rates appear to be the same As Express 1...

@acebiz - You can use your existing Stamps.com account with Smart Shipping, and you'll have access to all of the USPS services that they provide.

    1) inkFrog Discount Postage provides the following Priority Mail flat rate domestic services:

    Flat Rate Envelope

    Small Flat Rate Box

    Medium Flat Rate Box

    Large Flat Rate Box

The international flat rate services are not currently available through inkFrog Discount Postage, but you have access to these services if you use your Stamps.com account.

    2) We may be adding new label options in the future.  In the meantime, if you are printing 15 to 20 labels per day, it may be cost effective to use a 4x6" thermal such as the Zebra LP 2844.  The labels are cheap, and you'll never buy ink again!

By using a combination of inkFrog Discount Postage and Stamps.com, you should be able to do all of your USPS shipping through the Smart Shipping application.

Why has the 1st class shipping options not added to the ink frog service.  Once that is used then it would become usable. The stamp service is not worth $15.99 a month to small shippers.  paypal multiship is a better option.

I must be missing something because I see no options to select the Flat Rate boxes/envelope.

I ship 3-5 packages a day using padded flat rate envelope, I would not be able to do those through inkFrog shipping even if I can get the other flat rate options to show for me.

@Acebiz - Do you have Stamps.com Enabled? Also the flat rates will be in the packages drop down list.

Any plans to add Canada Post to this option.

Yes, I have stamps.com set up, and my Amazon account.  I see the packages option now, I just didn't expect to have to make another selection.  I will check it out over the weekend as orders come in and see how this looks.  Right now I only have 6, but I sometimes have 50 by shipping time on a Monday.  It has to be efficient for me, and at first glance it looks promising.  I like that I can easily compare UPS rates also, but wish I could do that with less clicks.

If I do some shipping with inkFrog Priority Mail, and some with stamps.com, do I end up with 2 SCAN forms?

  • Avatar
    merchandiseconcepts

I am excited about it. I know it saves me time. Would be curios about the 2 Scan forms to or if it just gives 1. I know with Multiple Id's I get 1 Scan form for both Id's but not sure for the 2 different services.

Paid Orders Report      Displays a printable report containing orders that are ready to be shipped.

I think that might work out well for me to use as a picking list.  I have inventory in 2 locations and ship from a 3rd location, so getting orders pulled in 1 trip is important.

I need to be able to stage orders by saving the package information ahead of time instead of entering it all at the time of printing labels.  The way it is now, changes to weight, shipping service and options, etc. are lost if I go out of the Ship Orders page.  We should be able to enter this information and save it.

Acebiz, it appears to remember your past shipments on previous items.

    Jason

Just submitted a follow-up to previous ticket on problems experienced when trying out the Beta of this.

I still see no way to "pre-load" postage into an account, before doing the actual shipping.  Possibly I have to go through the printing/purchasing process to actually put money into an account.  Without any Priority orders to ship tonight (will have some Monday), I can't do that.

Also, wondering about the problem logging into PayPal when I did try to print labels 2 weeks ago.  I also can't get a credit card to upload to have the system use that for payment.

One last thing.  When I was messing around with things a couple weeks ago, I set up Stealth postage as default in Settings.  But, when I went to the page of an order I was going to try to print, the Checkbox and choice of Stealth was grayed out, uncheckable and unchecked.  If Stealth was enabled, and causes the choice to be grayed out, the checkbox should have said it was chosen.  However, even if Stealth is set up in Settings as default, we should still have the option to UN-check it and print the postage.  There are one or two instances each month where I would like to have the postage showing, but for the other 200 orders, no.

    Thanks.

    Dan

@acebiz - The system will pre-fill the weight, dimensions, service, and package fields if you have previously shipped the same item.  Also, these selections will be automatically filled if this information is available from the eBay listing.  For example, if you specify that an item will ship via Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope in your eBay listing, those fields will be pre-filled for you.  This also goes for the weight and dimensions if you use calculated shipping.

@dmva - There is an issue when attempting to purchase postage via PayPal if you are using Internet Explorer 8 or 9 on Windows 7.  To get around this problem, you have to enable 3rd party cookies in your browser.  Go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Advanced.  Then Click the "Override automatic cookie handling" box and choose to Accept 3rd party cookies.  You are correct that there is no way to pre-load postage at this time.  The system will prompt you to add funds to your account when needed.  Can you give me more details on the credit card issue you are having?  Feel free to reply to our existing support ticket with more information on this issue.

If you are using inkFrog Discount Postage, you are required to use stealth postage.  This is a requirement by the USPS since you are purchasing a label for less than the typical Commercial Base rate.  You can choose to show or hide postage when using Stamps.com.

    Jason -

I already mentioned details on the credit card issue in that ticket - 29758.

I'm also not using IE.  I use Firefox exclusively.

In the real world of eBay, that is often not going to be the way a listing is set up.  The big push by eBay is for Free Shipping, and in that case there is no information on weight and dimensions that is available for code to pull for the label information.  Also, in some cases the use of a shipping service may change if it is a multiple quantity order.  If we specify standard shipping instead of a specific carrier, then that will have to be filled in on the label.  On Amazon, this will always be the case since there is no carrier specified.

The reality is that in our case, and for many sellers, we can not just select the list of orders to be printed then print them without editing individual order shipping information.  It is much better to be able to edit individual listings and save them.  This is easily done in the stamps.com software.

This is the kind of thing I was talking about earlier when I said it has to be easy to use.  If my shipping person has to divide their concentration to go look up weights and enter all the information in order to be able to print up labels, it just doesn't work.

@ Ace -  "In the real world of eBay"???  Boy, that's a good one.

@Jason - Ace has some valid questions that will undoubtedly impact the way I will and would use SmartShipping.  It also brings a question to my mind.  Have YOU actually used this service (SmartShipping) to ship something you have sold on eBay?

@Ace - I understand that you may never use calculated shipping.  I was just explaining how the system works if you do happen to use that feature.  The features that I mentioned will hopefully allow the system to automatically set the values correctly for all of your single-item orders.  As you have stated, you will likely need to tweak each of the multi-item orders, and this is easily done in Smart Shipping.  I do understand your point about being able to save the shipping selections without printing the labels, and that is something we should be able to add without too much trouble.

One other thing that you may want to consider is that the labels do not have to be printed at the time they are created.  You may prefer to choose the shipping selections and create the labels yourself.  Since a batch of labels is stored as a single PDF file, you could simply email the PDF to your shipping employee or allow him to access your inkfrog account to download the labels.

    @Dan - yes, I have.

@Ace, you can now save your shipping selections without creating labels.  Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save and ship later" :)  Thanks for the feedback!

Perfect!  Wow, that's service.  We are into the stamps.com scheduled maintenance now, a good reason for me to quit on this for now.  Oh yeah, there is that sleep thing too.

OK, operating a bit 'blind' here as I've not checked out any of the new software. I have two concerns before I try it.

First, we ship an average of 15 or so packages each shipping day. I balked when I saw bulk as I figured that must apply to much larger shippers shipping the same item to 50 different buyers at a whack. Is this the case?  Ours go to 15 different people, and are all shapes and sizes. Many of our customers are also opting for First Class Mail now if the weight allows. As I understand what I've read here, we would have to pay stamps.com $15.99/month because of this? We don't pay anything now, printing directly from eBay.

Secondly, I just have to ask - how does one obtain the label if there is no printing involved?  The possible savings here could be mind boggling with the cost of ink!

One more thing, I sell women's clothing and use calculated shipping.  I believe our shipping star has improved since we began to show the cost of the postage on the label. Not sure I like that we'd have to use stealth.
