Legacy inkFrog updates and next steps....

Greg S. -

Hi folks -- this is Greg the CEO of inkFrog.  I wanted to post an announcement regarding our legacy system and to give you some straight talk on what we have happening so I can get your feedback. If you are not sure if you are on the 'legacy' system or not, then you most likely are not .. If you are on legacy... keep reading.

So here is the deal --

First and foremost, we have made a TON of updates to our new site in the last few months with the latest update coming today! It's faster, easier to read, and has loads of other updates based on your previous feedback, including less scroll. So what I would like to ask you to do is please try the new site lister again and send me your thoughts here on your dislikes compared to our legacy system.  Please REALLY try it before you post and keep in mind that over ten thousand people are now using the new lister.. it works well, it's not in beta anymore. Millions of listings are launched through it.

Next --

I've tried to really make a push to keep our legacy site around and supported.. but as time goes on this is getting harder and harder. The reason is that eBay is making changes faster than we can develop two different sites for. It's not that we want to get rid of the legacy, it's that it's just becoming impossible to keep updated with eBay's changes.  With that being said, I told everyone that I would strive to make sure you were all happy with our new site so it would be something that you can use on a daily basis. Thus, the purpose for this announcement is to find out what you still don't like about the new site so we can get it resolved. Again, please actively try the new site again --  It's been updated many time's since you most likely last used it (with the latest update today)

Finally - since you are still using legacy - you do not have access to our newest, fastest uploader and images section (on either the new or legacy site) because it uses different backend technology which legacy doesn't support. We are moving accounts to it daily and are getting incredible reviews.   My goal is that you will try the new site again, hopefully like it, and then we can get you converted to our 'new new' image uploader and images page which is much faster than than our current offerings. This will also ensure you get our future updates.

Please post your feedback here regarding your dislikes of the new site -- and i'll make one more plea to actually use the new site before you post! We've made a lot of updates since the last time I did this.

I'll be actively monitoring this thread and reply..

regards,

Greg

Why the 75MB limit on   the new uploader?  That is 25 pictures at a time.  I never hit a limit on any of the old uploaders I used.  When you have to go thru the process 2 or 3 times it is NOT faster.

Also twice tonight it didn't work for the second batch of pictures going into the same folder.  Received this popup message:

Uploader encountered some problem. If you see this message, contact web master

It finally worked after about 10 or 12 tries.

Yes, I use the new site and have for a long time with no problems until this change.

    Greg,

I appreciate that you continue to upgrade your product. However, I cannot believe, in ALL the updates you have done, you have not done a thing to address or correct the_ ONE_ reason I will not switch to the new Ink Frog. The Description box in Legacy works the way a Description box should work and the New Ink Frog Description Box is a_ piece of crap_ (if you will excuse my French).

When you use the box on Normal View on Legacy, you get what you see (same size and font, no extra spaces, etc.) when you switch to Preview View. When you use the box on New Ink Frog, it's not even close to the same when you switch to Preview. You never know if the font size will be the same, or if there will be HUGE gaps of white space added in by the program. I tend to use Normal view, switching to Code View when I want to add something simple, like <div align="center"> or <img src="http://www.productions.com/69cam1.jpg" /> for my own photos. When I switch back on Legacy, no problems, just as I expected. When I switch back on New IF, BOOM,  there are tons of code added in that I neither added, wanted or need.

The biggest annoyances are the addition of <p> </p> all up and down the page and the question of how big the font size will actually be when you go back to Normal View and Preview. It wastes tons of time having to correct the extra code put in by the New Ink Frog program.

When you can get New Ink Frog's Description Box to work like the Legacy Description Box, I will gladly be a convert, but right now, the frustration level is still way too much.

@ bojibelle46 -- we are upping the limit as I write this to 500MB so you should be good to go. I think this will solve your other issue as well.

@Bill - there is a huge reason this is -- the main reason is that the old description box you are using is very outdated -- and so most eBay users template code! It's really important to update your templates to use newer coding methodologies. The new editor will do this. I realize it's frustrating because it may change what you have currently.   Also, templates should really be updated to work better with mobile (our new template editor builds mobile friendly templates).  It's not that we wouldn't love to fix your issue, it's just that it isn't as easy as you think.  Can you send me an example listing of an item which doesn't convert properly for you so I can take a look?

Also Greg, just a couple small things that maybe you could look at:

You need a line of buttons at the bottom of the page as well, so you don't have to go all the way back to the top of the page to go to Library, Scheduled, etc.

The Search for templates is much worse on New Ink Frog. It doesn't pull up half as many templates as the Legacy site when you but in, say, blue or green.

The Pro Series Templates don't come up at all. The little spinning sign just keeps going until you get bored and move on.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Greg,

Do you want me to send a shot here or to your email?

@Bill -- I honestly recommend not using our legacy templates -- I would use our new template builder - you can really customize things to how you want and it creates a better buying experience IMO. Have you tried it ?  Regarding a screenshot -- just send me the subject of an example library item which doesn't convert correctly. I can check your account and see what is happening

    Greg,

You would think that your bigger clientele; the USA would be the default regarding language, but not.  We have to search for the translation so to find our way through the jungle of Asian squiggles that few of us understand. This is not a condescending remark at Asians, but a remark that you asked for. Why is there no US language default for US clientele? and why does it not "stick" when applied?  Please think ahead on these matters.  This is only part of why we are so pissed off at you - foresight ...

@smallsmoke - what you are referring to? Everything does default to the US.

@Bill - also ProSeries templates are in the new lister or do you mean searching doesn't bring them up?

    Greg,

Just tried new site again after a long respite.  Log in was fine, but as soon as I tried anything on Chrome or Firefox, (which I always use on Legacy), it froze - and I can't roll down, (via mouse). Must return to to Legacy.  Livelihood depends upon it - Sorry.

    Hi Greg,

Look at  2000 Harley Davidson Ford F150 Pickup Truck

I did not put ANY of the <p style="color: rgb(240, 230, 140); ">  </p>  commands in the code. See how often it reappears.

    What causes that?

    Greg,

Clicking on the Choose Legacy Pro Series Template button does not bring them up.

Our biggest problem with the new lister is that if you try to edit an ebay motors listing that has a vehicle compatibility guide, it doesn't actually pull it into inkfrog.  So if you don't realize, you edit a bunch of listing and your compatibility is no longer there. It's absolutely infuriating.  I have complained about it many times and it still does it.

    Greg,

Just tried IE.  I can't roll anything up or down.  This was the initial prob that prevented me from using the new site to begin with months and months ago.  Prob is also on my laptop; at home or away - sorry.  Legacy still pays the bills.

Greg, The new site sucks. If you stop legacy I will be leaving inkfrog. Please let me know when you are stopping my favorite legacy and I will be out of here

    Greg,

FYI; on a purely friendly note, there are perhaps more folks than you might be aware of that are now contacting Vio and Auctiva to help them escape what you and your team has created:  an escape hatch.  Perhaps what ALL of you eBay management providers need to understand is that no company has stepped far enough ahead of eBay to keep you from stepping all over yourselves - which you are obviously doing.

Have you ever stopped to think that this is what eBay wants?  Because I can tell you this; if you don't change your software to work with the eBay software, we will all eventually go back to eBay.  In other words:  eBay has a team designed to counter-play what ALL of you do.  Why do you think they have kept their lethargic "Turbo-Lister" in place for so many years?  Because they have software in-place that will out-date whatever you seem to think you have.  Ask yourself;  Why isn't what you have installed working? ...

Jump ahead. Refrain from trying to keep up.  Simply capture a niche.  Legacy is wonderful.  Allow it to do what it does.  Then create something for the new age, but allow Legacy to remain.  It's what's called, "an income stream".

    Have fun

Please do not KILL Legacy. I tried the new site, and am not a fan at all. Please rethink this decision and keep it alive if at all possible

@Bill - I checked the old site and new site and that code shows up in both.. Do you have one that has an issue NOT in legacy but shows differently in the new site?  Those both render the same as well (both show perfectly in preview mode).

@ grandmasclozet - Did you tried the new site today? What exactly 'sucks' about it ?

@ sean mcauliffe -- Can you send me an example listing that has this issue? I can get this fixed.

@smallsmoke -- something is def. up with your computer if  that is happening. Are you on XP or something ? What version of each browser are you using?

    Greg

I have given the new site an honest try and I do like it better then the last time that I tried it.  My biggest complaint is that the words, buttons, and spaces are too big.  On the older site I can see a lot more information without scrolling back and forth.  Having a one page listing design and being able to see so much of it is what attracted me to Inkfrog the most.  If there was an option to shrink everything so that I could see more of everything at once I think I would be happy (even happier if I could see more than in the old version).

@Bill - the Pro Series popup works great for me, I tested Chrome, Firefox, IE -- what browser and version are you using?

Greg, Yes I tried the new site and I am not a fan of it. My computer and the new site don't go together. Like I said if you stop legacy I am out of here.

@ mattbecca - 1000% agree! Been working on that a lot lately. You should of noticed some improvements in that area already.. Will try to update it more.

@ grandmasclozet - that doesn't help me much :) -- What computer and browser you using? What doesn't it like about it.. details help :) I do realize we are going to lose some customers when legacy goes away -- but I'm confident we will get most of them back after they see a lot of our new stuff coming out etc.

I think it's great to be able to get a quick answer, I'm listing with it right now and after a little time I'll be happy.  Really happy if there's a 'shrink' option.

Greg I am using internet explorer. I have asked you many times if you were going to due away with the legacy and you said no. I guess you were not telling the truth. Once I leave believe me I am not coming back. I think that it is horrible to do this to all your faithful costumers. I own a business and to make it successful you have to please your costumers. But I guess costumer service is not important to you. First you force us to change to the new inkfrog, then you raise the insurance rates. Beware fellow inkfrogers of what is coming our way

I just tried the new site for the first time in a LONG time.  It is better, but the image tool sucks.  The search does not work and the image previews take forever to load.  I am on windows 8.

It also launches items very slowly.

If you can get the already-uploaded images searchable, I will try it again.  I can't waste time screwing around.
